    • Bio: Nicholas was the son of Thomas and Mary Osborne. He married Ann Dutton on Jan. 25, 1905, at Des Moines, Iowa. They were the parents of Gerald and Duane.August 15, 1944 - Carroll Times - Funeral services were conducted at the Carroll Methodist church at 3 o'clock Monday afternoon for N.W. Osborne of Terril, formerly of Carroll, who died at the Park View clinic in Estherville Friday, Aug. 11. The Rev. Harvey Nelson, pastor of the Terril Methodist church, who had officiated at rites there at 10 o'clock Monday morning, was in charge of the services here. As the musical portion of the rites in the Carroll church, a quartet composed of Miss Wilma Mohler, Mrs. John Ingels, L.B. Sweany and C.M. Bayliss, sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Have Thine Own Way," accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Ronald Ream. Burial was beside his wife in the Carroll cemetery. Pallbearers were Milton Evans, Enos Fairchild, Ed Eick, and Irvin Clark, of Terril, and Merrill Rogers and Eugene Osborne of Carroll.Mr. Osborne was a nephew of Mrs E.J. Rogers Sr, of Carroll. The eldest son of Thomas and Mary Osborne, Nicholas Wellington Osborne was born at Carroll June 5, 1875. His boyhood was spent on the farm of his parents in Carroll county. He attended rural schools until at an early age he was forced to quit and take over the management of the farm after his father's death. Jan. 25, 1905, at Des Moines, he was married to Anna Dutton of Carroll. They were the parents of two sons, Gerald, of Terril and Duane of Spirit Lake. In the spring of 1917 Mr & Mrs Osborne and family left Carroll and moved to a farm which he had purchased near Terril. In September, 1924, his wife died. He and his sons continued farming the place where he made his home until the time of his death. When still a boy, he became a member of the Methodist church at Carroll, and later transferred his membership to the Terril Methodist church. For the past few years, Mr. Osborne had been in failing health. A few days before his death, his condition became serious, and he was taken to the Estherville clinic. He died at the age of 69 years. Surviving are his two sons, above named, one sister, Mrs. W.J. Reynolds of Portland, Ore., one brother, Robert Osborne, of Buena Park, Calif., three grandchildren, four nieces and three nephews. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Out-of-town relatives at the services here included his sons and daughters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Osborne of Terril and Mr. and Mrs. Duane Osborne of Spirit Lake, Mr. and Mrs. J. Thomas Rogers of Coon Rapids were also present.
