- Bio: Marvin L. Olson, age 55, of Watertown, South Dakota, passed away on October 16, 2008 in Bryant, South Dakota at the Parkview care center. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, 1:30 p.m., October 21, 2008 at the Wight, Comes & Sogn Funeral Chapel in Watertown with Pastor Fred Rosin officiating. Visitation was held from 11:00 a.m. until prior to the service. Interment in the Highland Lutheran Cemetery, rural Brandt, South Dakota.
- Honorary Casketbearers were Marvin's roommate, Larry Jenson, and the Bryant Parkview Care Center staff and residents.
- Active Casketbearers were Terry DeYoung, Curtis Stockwell, Damian Kannegieter, Dustin Hawbecker, Jul Johnson and Tony Morehead.
- Marvin Louis Olson, the son of Elmer M. and Hilma L. (Hanson) Olson was born on July 17, 1953 in Clear Lake, South Dakota. He grew up in DeSmet and attended school in Ivanhoe. Marvin had numerous jobs and in his early years he broke horses for Red Bogstad in DeSmet and Rodney Niles in Watertown. He worked at the Willow Lake Livestock and before his illness he was employed by ATY Feeder Pigs in Watertown.
- In 1972 he married Jeanne Brean in DeSmet and had one daughter named, Syverina. Then married Della and they had two children Justin and Amy, then in 1988 he married Shirley Cotton and they had a daughter, Christina.
- He loved spending time with family and friends, baby-sitting nieces and nephews, and helping the residents in the nursing home. Marvin also enjoyed being around farm animals (especially horses), fishing, planting gardens, painting and playing cards.
- He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his parents; and numerous aunts and uncles.
- He is survived by his children, Tina Cotton (fiancé, Nate) of Garretson, Syverine Olson of DeSmet, Justin Olson and Amy Olson of Montevideo, MN; his brother, Marlo (Cheryl) Olson of Attleboro, MA; and his grandson, Nicolas.
