- Bio: Langford - The funeral for Alvin C. Anderson will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2006, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Langford. The Reverend Sam Hatlestad and Diane Hoines will officiate. Burial will be in the Homer Cemetery of Pierpont, with military honors by Charles Young Post #99 of the American Legion of Pierpont. Visitation will be one hour preceding the funeral at the church. Mr. Anderson died Saturday, May 13, 2006, at Avera-St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen at the age of 87. Arrangements by Price Funeral Chapel of Britton, S.D. Alvin Clarion Anderson, son of Albert and Clara (Stave) Anderson, was born March 8, 1919, on the family homestead northeast of Pierpont. He attended country grade school and graduated from Pierpont High School in 1937. Alvin was drafted into the U.S. Army on April 14, 1942, and served in the 35th Division, Co. H, 320th Infantry during World War II. He was discharged Nov. 19, 1945, and returned home to farm. Alvin was united in Marriage to Lois L. Lemmon on Nov. 19, 1948. They made their home on the family farm in the Langford/Pierpont area. He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Langford and was a 60-year member of Charles Young Post #99 of the American Legion in Pierpont. Alvin's favorite pastimes were going to auction sales and spending time with his friends at the coffee shop. Alvin is survived by his wife Lois Anderson, Aberdeen; six children: Susan (Don) Maunu, Frederick, S.D., Philip (Kathy) Anderson, Brigham City, Utah, Barbara (Bill) DeYoung, Buffalo, Minn., Roger (Kathy) Anderson, Winston, Ore., Robert Anderson, Firestone, Colo., and Larry Anderson, Aberdeen; eight grandchildren: Corey (Lori) Maunu, Sioux Falls, S.D., Rhoni (Bill) McKay, Brigham City, Utah, Jodi (James) Crossley, Los Angeles, Calif., Tommy and Cody Norris, Winston, Ore., Racine and Rachael Benavidez and Tara Medina, Colorado Springs, Colo.; seven great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Emil (Marion) Anderson, Groton, S.D., and Emmet (Judy) Anderson, Chandler, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Alma Rye and Inger Nygaard; five brothers: Clarence, Joseph, Selmer, Reuben and Bernt Anderson.
