    Noteringar
    • Bio: Loreen L. McIntosh was born on December 27, 1945 to Gerald and Vaun (Beers) McIntosh in Eureka, California. After over 40 years of fighting multiple sclerosis, she departed this life on December 23, 2016, at the age of 70.
    • Loreen grew up on a farm outside St. Edward, Nebraska. She graduated from St. Edward High School and later she completed a few college courses. After graduation, Loreen moved to Red Wing, NE and then to Clay Center, Nebraska. While living in Clay Center, she started working at the Research Center in Hastings, Nebraska. It is there where people started calling her “Susi” and she kept this nickname for the rest of her life. The Research Center is also where she met, Ed Swanson, whom she married on February 5, 1970. They relocated to Valentine, Nebraska in the fall. The following year, Susi had her first child, Beth. Later, the family took over the family ranch and had their second child, Jon. In 1983, Susi moved back into town to care for her mother-in-law and later divorced.
    • Susi worked at the Cherry County Hospital as a medical transcriptionist for many years. She later worked at Pizza Hut and the Super 8 motel, until her health issues required her to stop working. In 2004, Susi was diagnosed with breast cancer. She moved to Sioux Falls, SD to be closer to her children and medical care. During her final chemotherapy treatments, Susi experienced an exacerbation of her multiple sclerosis symptoms. Although she was cancer-free, she no longer had the ability to walk. In February 2005, Susi moved into Bethany Lutheran Home, where she lived the rest of her life.
    • Susi was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Valentine and later at Berea Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. In Valentine, she was involved in various groups and activities including: being a Sunday school teacher, singing in the church choir, heading the junior bowling league, bowling on a league team and being an active member in the Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT) group in the state of Nebraska. In Sioux Falls, she enjoyed volunteering with various projects, helping with other residents, making crafts, playing bingo, and singing at services or any other activity that involved singing. Susi was a veracious reader; she never met a book she wasn’t willing to read! She also loved to collect owls. It didn’t matter what color or size, they would always make her smile.
    • Susi was a special lady. Life wasn’t always kind to her, but she managed to make the most with what she had. Susi found comfort in her faith. She always had a smile on her face and appreciated the small things in life. Susi actively watched out for others and enjoyed being helpful. Her spirit was an inspiration and she will be greatly missed.
    • Thank you to everyone who touched her life over the years. You all held a special place in her heart.
    • Susi is survived by two children, Beth Swanson and Jon Swanson, both of Sioux Falls, SD; one brother Jim (Anna) McIntosh of St. Edward NE; one sister, Mary Schmidt of Columbus, NE; one brother-in-law, Floyd Steinbach of Fullerton, NE; eight nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
    • Susi was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Carol McIntosh; and her sister Janet Steinbach.
    • A small memorial service will be held at Bethany Lutheran home on December 30th at 10:30 am with a burial memorial service to be held at a later time in St. Edward, NE.
