- Bio: Funeral services for Knute J. Knutson were held Monday, March 7, at 2 p.m. from the East Moe Lutheran church. Rev. Milton Aarsvold, Rev. A. T. Tjornhom of Fergus Falls and Rev. Winton Hoog of Garfield officiated. Pallbearers were James Lauthen, George Hanson, Carl Stoeck, Richard Rosengren, Martin Tompson and George Gilbertson. Interment was made in the church cemetery.Knute Jacob Knutson was born Feb. 28, 1891, at Garfield, the son of Johanna and Torgjels Knutson. He was baptized and confirmed at the East Moe church and he has been a life long member of the congregation. He grew to manhood in Garfield and graduated from the Park Region College at Fergus Falls where he took a business course. He worked at his father's place of business and later went to Wild Rose, N.D., to operate a similar business. On Oct. 24, 1911, he was united in marriage to Ida Bergsten. To this union two children were born: (Thelma) Mrs. Art Foslien of Garfield and (Lorayne) Mrs. Ed Ethier of Fergus Falls. In 1912 Mr. and Mrs. Knutson returned to Garfield where he managed a hardware store and for several years was cashier at the Garfield State Bank. Mr. Knutson was active in community affairs and served as mayor of Garfield for several terms; also as a member of the school board and on the board of the East Moe congregation where he has been treasurer for many years. For the past few months Mr. Knutson has been in semi-retirement. He passed away suddenly Friday morning, March 4, at the age of 64 years and 4 days. Surviving are his wife; two daughters; three brothers: Alfred, of Starbuck, Laurance of Richmond, Calif., and Henry of Alexandria; and three sisters: Rose and Helga Knutson and (Mae) Mrs. James Iverson, all of Alexandria. He was preceded in death by his father, Torgjels Knutson, on Oct. 28, 1938, and his mother, Mrs. Johanna Knutson, on April 7, 1954.(Alexandria newspaper obit)
