- Services for Marvin LeRoy Johnson, 80, of Kirkland, Ill., will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Quiram-Kirkland Funeral Home, 309 S. Fifth St., Kirkland, Ill. The Rev. Barbara Gotschall will officiate.
- Born Dec. 4, 1919, in Aurora, the son of Frederick LeRoy and Gertrude Emelia (nee Oleson) Johnson, he died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. Interment will be in Blackberry Cemetery, Elburn.
- Marvin spent most of his life farming. He farmed in the Elburn area for 40 years before moving to Kirkland in 1979. Upon his retirement, he continued to be involved with the land by doing hail-adjusting for Farmers Union Insurance Company. He served for 11 years on the Elburn Co-op Board of Directors. He was an active member in the Elburn Lions Club and would have received a life membership in June. In his earlier years, he was an avid flyer. He owned his own plane and was a member of the Flying Farmers Association.
- He enjoyed vacationing and spending time with his family at their cottage in Wisconsin. Marvin also enjoyed his visits with his great-grandchildren and coffee time with his friends.
- Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Margaret L. "Maggie" (nee Bennett) Johnson, whom he married on March 27, 1939, in Clinton, Iowa; sons, Dale (Marge) Johnson of Genoa and Gary (Rita) Johnson of Maple Park; grandchildren, Dawn (friend, Jay) Weber of Maple Park, Derek (Paige) Johnson of Yorkville, Jeffrey Johnson of Sycamore and Douglas (friend, Nicole) Johnson of Maple Park; great- grandchildren, Alexis Weber and Gabriel Johnson; sister-in-law, Mary Johnson of Kaneville; several nieces andnephews; and a host of friends.
- He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, William Dean Johnson.
- Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today, at the funeral home.
- A memorial fund has been established c/o of the funeral home.
