- Bio: WASHBURN - L. LeRoy Johnson, 72, Washburn, died May 8, 2012, at his home. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 12, at First Lutheran Church, Washburn, with the Rev. Erik Johnson, officiating. Interment will be at the Riverview Cemetery, Washburn.
L. LeRoy Johnson was born March 19, 1940, in Underwood, to Lonnie A. and Florence (Danielson) Johnson. He was raised on the family farm outside of Falkirk. LeRoy attended school in Washburn and graduated from Washburn High School. On Aug. 12, 1961, he was united in marriage to Shirley Moug. Together they raised their family in Washburn. LeRoy worked for the John Deere Implement and Knutson Implement as a truck driver for many years. He later worked for McLean County as a heavy equipment operator until his retirement in April 2008. LeRoy is remembered for his argumentative spirit and for loving to call his grandkids "George." He listened to KBMR radio on a daily basis and enjoyed spending time outdoors with his dogs. LeRoy was always willing to lend people a helping hand.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley, Washburn; three sons, Richard (Julie), Washburn, Ronald (Diane), Pick City, and Edwin (Kathleen), Lakewood, Calif.; two daughters, Rhonda Johnson (Dan Lundby), Washburn, and Robyn (Russell) Smith, Washburn; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Marvin (Karen) Johnson, Kingston, Wash.; one uncle, LaVern (Marlys) Johnson, Washburn; and his two dogs, Princess and Lisa Marie.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
