- Bio: Charles R. "Chuck" Jennings, 87, of Davenport passed away after a brief illness on November 8, 2013, at home surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be held at 1:00p.m. on Friday, November 15, 2013 at The Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Visitation will be Thursday, November 14 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Mortuary. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island. Chuck was born on April 21, 1926 in Calamus, Iowa, to Thomas and Alice (Sherwood) Jennings. He was united in marriage to Mavis Longfield on July 5, 1947; she passed away in 1978. He later married Shirley (Jochems) Leighton on April 24, 1979. Mr. Jennings served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and he later served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion Post #26, and the Moose Lodge, Davenport. For many years, he was the owner and operator of Jennings Painting. Chuck loved horses and was known by friends and family as an avid horseman. He was also a devoted euchre player. Chuck greatly enjoyed time with his family and friends. Those who knew him will remember him fondly as a storyteller, and for his sense of humor. Chuck was always willing to help anyone in need – family, friends, or strangers.He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley, his children, Marcia Bortleson, Bettendorf, Vicki Vavra, Davenport, Joni (Ken) Henri, LeClaire, Jay (Ruth Ann) Jennings, Normal, Illinois, Gary (Debbie) Jennings, Blue Grass, Brian Jennings, Blue Grass; step-children Daniel Leighton, Davenport, Terry Leighton, Blue Grass, and Tammy Leighton, Aurora, Illinois; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his sisters, Bertha Conger, Davenport, and Grace Neff, York, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his siblings, John, Art, George, Tom, Frank, Ethel and Edith.
