- Bio: Carrie Julia Miller, daughter of Carl and Anna (Tuftie) Helgeson, was born July 24, 1913 in Marion Junction, South Dakota. Her family moved to Iowa and she attended Maple Lawn country school near Bode, Iowa. As a young girl, Carrie did domestic work for many families and helped on the family farm. On June 30, 1938 Carrie was united in marriage to Martin (Mike) Miller at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. They had a double wedding with Gertrude Helgeson and Carmen Miller. After their marriage Carrie and Mike made their home in Graettinger until 1985 when they moved to Emmetsburg and Mike owned and operated the DX bulk plant and tank wagon. Carrie was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church and Church Circle in Emmetsburg. She was also a member of the Pythian Sisters. Carrie died Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg, Iowa at the age of 92. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Martin on March 18, 1991; three sisters, Gertrude Hunt, Marguerite Gjerde and Thelma Bell. She is survived by a brother, Clarence Helgeson of Emmetsburg, IA; a sister, Ruth Schempp of San Marcos, CA; as well as many other relatives and friends.
