- Bio: Ruce, Joyce D. a long time resident of Deephaven, passed away Nov. 23, 2014.
Joyce was born on Sept. 23, 1924 in Duluth to Myrtle Olson Smith and John Evensen Smith. She attended Denfeld High School in Duluth and graduated from the College of St. Scholastica with a degree in Medical Records. She married John A. Ruce on March 22, 1947 while he was a GI Bill student at the University of Minnesota in Electrical Engineering.
Joyce served her community in many capacities, including many years of volunteer service at both the Neighborhood Involvement Program and Bethune School in Minneapolis. She was an active member of St. Luke Presbyterian Church in Minnetonka for over 50 years. Joyce worked as a Medical Record Librarian and Medical Records Supervisor at several Twin Cities hospitals, including Methodist, Unity and Winsted hospitals. She enjoyed bridge, her hobby club group, spending time at the family cabin near Grand Rapids and especially time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include sons, Steven (Irene Silber) of Orono and David (Lynda) of Minneapolis; grandsons, Philip (Mary) of Minneapolis, Charles (Heather) of La Mesa, CA; and extended family in Duluth.

Memorial service December 30 at 3:00 PM at St. Luke Presbyterian Church, 3121 Groveland School Road in Minnetonka.
