- Marvin I. Espedal was born May 27, 1919 in the family home at rural Plankinton to Thor and Clara (Jacobson) Espedal. He graduated from Hopper Consolidated School in 1937. He was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon and was a lifetime member. On May 29, 1943 he married Elaine Soma. They farmed in Aurora County until retiring in 1985 and they bought a home in Mount Vernon. In 2009 they moved to Countryside Living in Mitchell where he resided until a fall required him to move to Avera Brady Nursing Home in November, 2012.
- Marvin had a beautiful singing voice and sang solos in church and for many weddings and funerals over the years. He had been a member of a men's quartet from Salem Lutheran Church at one time. During his year at Brady he continued this tradition which he loved.
- He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph and wife, YuVonne, son-in-law, Tom Young and two grandchildren: Dana Espedal and Kari Baker.
