- Bio: "Carolyn Elaine Bruget Ellison was born on September 19, 1930, in Volin, South Dakota, to Alfred and Alma (Kjeldseth) Bruget. She grew up on the family farm, attended grade school in Wakonda, and graduated from Augustana Academy in Canton, South Dakota, in 1948 before attending Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa, for one year. As a young girl, Carolyn enjoyed singing in the choir and helping her parents around the farm.
- Carolyn married Robert Ellison on August 26, 1950, at Zion Lutheran Church in Volin, South Dakota, and they were blessed with four children: Charla, Stu, Janelle, and Kirsten. Carolyn and Robert raised their family in St. Paul, Minnesota; Rapid City, South Dakota; Pierre, South Dakota; Omaha, Nebraska; and Lakewood, Colorado. After Robert’s death in 1985, Carolyn returned to Omaha to live closer to her children and grandchildren.
- Carolyn was a stay-at-home mom while her children were in school, concentrating on raising the family and supporting Robert with his career as a Lutheran pastor. Later, Carolyn worked as a Seniors Activities Director, coordinating travel tours for destinations around the world. She loved traveling, tending her flower garden, attending the symphony, and doting on her grandchildren, but most important to her was reading her Bible as well as being involved in the church. Carolyn loved the Lord and was a compassionate woman who sought out new members and visitors to make them feel welcome. She enjoyed music and was also very proud of her Norwegian heritage.
- Carolyn passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at The Lighthouse in Omaha with her family by her side at the age of 85 years. She was preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Alma, husband Robert, brother Glen, and sisters Adelaine and Levilla.
