- Bio: Doris S. Scheibe, age 84, of Huron, formerly of Wolsey, died on Thursday, May 19, 2011, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.Her Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 23, 2011, at the American Lutheran Church in Huron, SD with burial at the Restlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.Her Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m., Sunday, May 22, at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron with the family present from 6-8 p.m. Sunday night, and a prayer service to begin at 7:00 p.m.; or one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.Doris Scheibe, formerly Doris SeDelle Tollefson, the daughter of Tollak and Stella (Oakland) Tollefson, was born on May 7, 1927 in Bonilla, SD, 1 of 6 girls. She attended school in Bonilla, and graduated from Bonilla High School in 1945. Doris attended General Beadle School in Madison, SD, and taught rural schools for 2 years.Doris married William Scheibe on August 1, 1946 at the Lyle Marshall home near Bonilla, SD. The couple lived near Wolsey from 1947-1979, where she helped with the dairy business. They moved to Huron in 1979. Doris worked at the Adult Day Care Center in Huron, as the Activity Director for 17 years, and continued to spend many hours volunteering there even after her retirement.Doris was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Huron since 1959. She enjoyed crafts, crossword puzzles, games, fishing, and spending time with her family and friends.Grateful for having shared in her life are her husband, Willian Scheibe, of Huron, SD; 7 children: Sharlyn (Tom) Tobin, of Aberdeen, SD, Verlyn (Kathy) Scheibe, of Custer, SD, Marian (Steve) Sprecher, of Huron, SD, Roger (Kay) Scheibe, of Brookings, SD, Phyllis (Mark) Schievelbein, of Sioux Falls, SD, LaVonne (Steve) Schaeffer, of Warner, SD, and Rhonda (Jerry) Jasmer, of Huron, SD; 18 grandchildren and their spouses; 17 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, LuVerne (Elwood) Peterson, of Huron, SD, Jeaniene Woodford, of Gettysburg, SD, and Arlette (Jack) Harris, of Chicago, IL; and many nieces and nephews.Doris was preceded in death by her parents; 2 sisters, Ruth Williams and Theone Marshall; and 3 brothers-in-law, Donald Woodford, Merlyn Williams, and Lyle Marshall.Memorials in Doris' name may be made to the Koeman Breast Cancer Fund, the American Heart Association, or the Huron Adult Daycare Center.
