- Bio: Phyllis Jean (Schlender) Forre, of Newman Grove, NE. passed away Friday, Jan. 20, 2012 at Bryan LGH in Lincoln, NE .after a brief illness. Phyllis was born July 18, 1932 near Madison, NE. the daughter of Walter and Rose (Baumgart) Schlender and was baptized at the Baptist Church in Creston. Phyllis grew up in the Madison area. She attended Madison High School for two years and then transferred to Newman Grove High School to take Normal Training. After her graduation in 1949, she taught school for one year at District 85, rural MadisonOn June 4, 1950 she married Sidney D. Forre in Madison, NE. To this union one son and four daughters were born. The couple farmed northwest of Newman Grove until their retirement in 1989. Sidney died February 16, 2007 in Albion, NE.Phyllis was a longtime member of Shell Creek Lutheran Church, where she was still active in the Ladies Aide. In years past, she was Sunday School Superintendent for many years, sang in the church choir and Ladies Chorus, and served as an officer on the church board.Her greatest pride and joy was her family. She enjoyed cooking and baking in preparation for family gatherings. No one ever left hungry! She continued to be a "farmer's wife", even after their retirement. She enjoyed the outdoors which was demonstrated by tending her roses and feeding and watching the birds. She also collected angel figurines, most of which were gifts from her family. Survivors are: daughter, Connie (Wayne) Rankin of Albion, son, Dan (Kim) Forre of Newman Grove, daughter, Judy (Randy) Querry of Ralston, daughter, Linda (Frank) Weiher of Stanton, daughter, Vicki (Joe) Haugen of Elkhorn; 14 grandchildren, Bob (DaNeal) Rankin of Newman Grove, Danielle (Kevin) Herchenbach of Lindsay, Renae (Darren) Guthard of Hickman, Halie (Kyle) Whitaker of Chambers, Dusty (Erin) Forre of Newman Grove, Jason (Jamie) Querry of Omaha Lacey (Jacque) Anson of Atkinson, Brent Querry of Ralston, Heather (Brad) Tomjack of Chambers and Heath Weiher of Stanton; Jake, Trevor and Michael Haugen of Elkhorn; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister Elnore (Lyle) Freudenburg of Madison; sisters-in-law, Jeanette (Les) Mortensen of Newman Grove, Dorothy Forre of Bellwood and a brother-in-law, Bill Meyer of Sioux City, IA; special friend, Linda Koening of Jerseyville, IL. and a host of relatives and friends.Phyllis was preceded in death by: parents and husband, Sidney D. Forre.Burial will be in Shell Creek Lutheran Cemetery, Newman Grove, NE.
